FIRE IN HOOD - BUILDING EVACUATED - CLSL-A: UPDATED

UPDATE #2:  The small fire in the hood in CLSL-A 331 has been extinguished.  We have been given the ALL CLEAR and people can now return to the building.

UPDATE: It has been determined it is NOT a chemical spill that occurred in CLSL-A 331.  It is a small fire that is contained to the inside of a hood.  Firefighters are in the room monitoring the situation.  The building needs to remain evacuated so please do not try to enter the building until the all clear has been given by SCS.

This info can also be found on the SCS Building Outages/Important Notices Blog:  www.scsbuildingoutages.blogspot.com

POWER OUTAGE OVER THE WEEKEND - NOYES LAB

TO ALL IN NOYES LAB:

SCS was made aware of a power outage that occurred in Noyes Lab late Friday evening and was restored early Sat AM.  We are working with F & S to find out why but here is the initial report:

It appears the main cable from the Main Campus Substation and Load Center 6, in Noyes, failed.

Load Center 6 was switched to a reserve feed.

Testing and repair will be iniated on Monday morning.

We are also working with F & S to find out why nobody within SCS (including myself & Chad) was notified except for one person in the CEES group.  We will work strenuously to ensure this is repaired permanently and make sure they understand it is IMPERATIVE to notify us ASAP when something like this occurs in our facilities.

Today's Maintenance Tip - Okay Description vs. Excellent Description in Reaction

Today’s Maintenance Tip:  Okay Description vs. Excellent Description in Reaction

When putting a description in Reaction, it is IMPERATIVE to put as much detail in the description as possible!  The trade/shop that is sent out from F & S will know exactly where to go in the lab/office, what repair is needed, and be able to get the repair done quicker.  Here are some examples to assist you:

Okay:  There is a light bulb out that needs changed.
Excellent:  There is a fluorescent ceiling light located in the SW corner of the room that needs changed.  For hoods, there is a light bulb in the hood located in the back NE corner of the room that needs changed.  It is marked with a post it note.

Okay:  The hood sash is broken.
Excellent:  The glass on the hood sash located by the door is cracked and needs repaired.  It is marked with a post it note.

Okay:  The sink is clogged.
Excellent:  The 2nd sink to the left is clogged and not allowing anything to drain out of it.  It is marked with a post it note.

By doing this, it also cuts down on having to go back and forth in email or phone calls to know exactly what needs done.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.  I’ve also attached the maintenance checkup email. This information can always be found on the SCS Building Outages/Important Notices blog:  www.scsbuildingoutages.blogspot.com

TEMP ISSUE - NORTH RAL

TO ALL IN NORTH RAL:

The SCS Facilities & Safety team has been made aware it is rather chilly in north RAL.  After speaking with Steam Distribution, we were advised the radiation steam heat had to be turned off to repair a leak that has been detected on the 3rd floor.  They are working to repair it, however, there is no timeline on when the repair will be completed right now.  Until it is completely repaired, the radiator steam heat has to stay off.  We apologize for the inconvenience and will keep you updated via email and the SCS Building Outages/Important Notices page:  www.scsbuildingoutages.blogspot.com.
