FUME HOOD EXHAUST OUTAGE : CLSL-A - JAN 6 THRU JAN 10, 2020

TO ALL IN CLSL-A:

As a key step in the ESCO project, and in an effort to keep the CLSL-A fume hood exhaust fan system functional for years to come, it is imperative that F & S completes extensive preventative maintenance on the fan belts, sheaves, and pillow block bearings to prevent future systems failures.  F&S has scheduled this preventative maintenance for Jan 6-10, 2020.  During this time the use of the fume hoods and auxiliary exhaust ports (i.e. elephant trunk system on glove boxes) will NOT be allowed to guarantee worker safety.
Note:  The general laboratory supply/exhaust will remain functional during the fume hood outage. Thus offices and labs can remain occupied as long as fume hoods and glove boxes are not in use.
Please follow the guidelines below for your safety and the worker’s safety -  F&S workers will be inside the exhaust fans during the fume hood outage:
1.      All hazardous operations in the fume hood should be secured and chemicals capped.
2.      All hazardous chemicals properly contained and spills wiped up.
3.      All hood sashes lowered.
4.      All operations utilizing the elephant trunk system (e.g. glove boxes) secured.

During the outages, the fume hood alarms will go off and there won’t be a way to silence them.  A more detailed guide will be sent out closer to the date. Building sections affected will be as follows:
1st Floor:  A101, A105, A106, A123, A125, A151
