TO ALL IN CLSL-A:
In an effort to keep the CLSL-A fume hood exhaust fan system
functional, it is imperative F & S does extensive preventative maintenance (PM) on the fan belts, sheaves, and repacking the
pillow block bearings for maximum performance. F&S has scheduled this PM for Jan 9, 10, & 11 from 6:00am-2:30pm
for each day. Therefore,
the use of the fume hoods and the
auxiliary exhaust ports (i.e. elephant truck system) will NOT be allowed during
this time for worker safety.
Note: The general laboratory supply/exhaust will
remain functional during the fume hood outage.
Please follow the guidelines
below for your safety and the worker’s safety. F&S workers will be
inside the exhaust fans during the fume hood outage.
1. All hazardous operations in the fume hood should be secured and chemicals capped.
2. All hazardous chemicals properly contained and spills wiped up.
3. All hood sashes lowered.
4. All operations utilizing the elephant trunk system secured.

Fume hoods WILL be available for use each day AFTER
2:30pm, unless instructed otherwise due to unforeseen circumstances.
However, the same procedures above will need followed to be prepared for the
next day’s outage.
During the outages, the fume hood alarms will be going off
and there won’t be a way to silence them. Building sections affected will
be as follows:
1st Floor: A101, A105, A106, A123, A125,
A151
2nd Floor: A201, A203, A205, A207, A214,
A217, A223, A225, A227, A229, A231
3rd Floor: A301, A304, A305, A307, A321,
A323, A325, A327, A329, A331, A333
4th Floor: A401, A403, A405, A407, A409,
A427, A429, A431, A433, A435, A441, A443
5th Floor: A501, A503, A505, A507, A509,
A523, A525, A527, A529, A531, A533, A538
